Also, I’m obviously not saying that Matthew’s death shouldn’t have mobilised such coverage, or that it wasn’t a tragedy (double negative, sorry). I use his example as a way of highlighting the hierarchy of privilege within our LGBTI communities.
It does suck, as trans seem still to be seen as “expendable”, especially ones not “white”. Brazil and other South American countries have terrible records of murdering trans sex workers as well, and the Transvesti there are open targets as well.
