Y’all!!!! I’m super excited to announce that I’m in the latest edition of Salacious Magazine! Salacious is a Queer Feminist Sex Magazine, full of smut and awesomeness and I’m so proud to have my comics in it!
The latest issue is themed “WORK” and I wrote an exclusive smut-filled comic for them about my favourite work-mates/slash-fic faves… here are the first few panels:
You have to buy WORK to see the rest. So you probably should. Because it is awesome.
I think you should also know that people in my building caught me drawing this in my dimly lit garage late at night, and asked to see it. It made for a lot of awkwardness. Hoorah!
So I’m super excited to announce that I’ve applied for a scholarship with AMP’s “Do Your Thing” Scholarships. I’m applying for a grant to get money to print the first five issues of ‘Family Portraits’.

What is Family Portraits?
In 2011 I spent a year interviewing people who were LGBTI/Queer/Trans/Awesome and collecting their stories. I transformed those stories into comics to create Family Portraits.
Family Portraits is a first-of-it’s-kind in New Zealand. It interweaves my own story as a queer-identified transgender man, with short pieces of other queer and trans individuals in New Zealand. I move beyond traditional coming out narratives and explore how age, history, gender, and ethnicity shape our experiences of ourselves, and how we live in the world.
Across these issues there are 9 short stories, told in different comic styles – it’s a celebration of the diversity of people, as well as a celebration of the epic awesomeness of comics.
The comics aim to be educational, fun, informative, and to help create media that helps us to feel good about diversity.
Why did I write Family Portraits?
Watch this video I made (be warned, it has violence and explicit language, and stuff like that)
And how do I vote for you?
You go to www.facebook.com/AMPscholarships and you search for Sam Orchard and you click vote! Easy.
Or you could click here ant vote: https://vote.doyourthing.co.nz/Applicants/Details/12788
Then you should share it with your friends, and tell them to vote too. ‘Cause the more stories out there that celebrate LGBTI/queer/trans/awesome people out there the better!
Everyone! I am so super excited to announce that I have a guest strip on Erika Moen’s new webcomic Oh Joy Sex Toy!
I wrote a comic about The Stockroom’s Le Butch Harness…. it was super fun to draw, and a real honour to get the opportunity to draw a comic for one of my heroes….
Check it out here:
So I’m SUPER excited to be a part of Auckland Zinefest for another year. It’s on this saturday, from 12pm at St. Kevin’s Arcade, and I’ll be selling my products. Ooh yeh!
I’ll be selling all my regular stuff…
But even more exciting than that is that I have a new zine! It’s called BoyS in a Big City, and is a sequel to my original zine Boy in a Big City. BoyS in a Big City is full of rudey nudey comics, and is mostly a collection of comics about sexuality, sex and desire. It includes some porn pieces, including a never-before-posted comic of Watson/Sherlock slash….
So, yeh, come by and talk awkwardly with me this Saturday, if you’re in Auckland!!
