So a few of you might remember that I had the honour of having a comic of mine be published in Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation. Well, in the spirit of RJ’s Riot Nrrrd, I’ve done my own comic review of it

Also, speaking of RJ, they’re being interviewed by Bitch as part of the blog’s series ‘Beyond The Panel’ interviewing webcomic artists! I’ve been asked to do an interview to, so keep an eye out for that in the future as well 🙂

TRANSCRIPT:

Panel 1:

Joe: (A person wearing a green polo, who is facing the viewer, but looking at Sam. One eyebrow is raised, the other lowered and mouth is open.) Is it ok to write a review of a book that you’re in?

Sam: (A person wearing a pale olive green t-shirt and a dark blue vest, who is facing the viewer, but looking at Joe. Eyebrows are raised and mouth is open, with upturned edges. Arms are raised at the shoulders, pointing straight out.) Probably not, but let’s do it anyway! Gender Outlaws: TNG is a conversation, a concerto & a celebration!

Panel 2:

Sam: (A person who is looking directly at the viewer, with raised eyebrows and an open mouth, which has slightly upturned edges. One arm is bent up at the elbow, palm facing the viewer and fingers bent forward.) I enjoy how it celebrates our past as much as it embraces our futures.

Panel 3:

Sam: (A person who is looking directly at the viewer, with raised eyebrows and an open mouth, which has slightly upturned edges. One arm is bent up at the elbow, in its hand a book, entitled: Gender Outlaws.) It is a lovely safety blanket to come home to. An important acknowledgement of my identity, sometimes I forget how important that is. Yes, Sam; you’re real, you’re important, and your existence is AWESOME!

Panel 4:

(There is a toilet upon which two stick figures are drawn in black, one wearing a dress, and the other not. There is a caption alongside, which reads:) Storm Miguel’s toilet is what I long for in all airports, schools, workplaces, cinemas, cafes, and libraries.

Panel 5:

Upside down Sam: (A person who is looking directly at the viewer with eyes full of tears. Eyebrows are raised and mouth is open. One arm is raised at the shoulder and bent up at the elbow, hand open, palm facing the viewer.) Janet Hardy brought me to tears at the subtleties and complexities of partnerships and gender.

Sam: (A person who is looking directly at the viewer, with lowered eyebrows and an open mouth. Arms are raised at the shoulders, bent up at the elbows and fingers are bent over, like claws.) And Raquel (Lucas) Platero Mendez’s piece warmed and fired up my heart; with anger and belonging screaming through my lungs!

Panel 6:

Sam: (A person who is looking directly at the viewer, with raised eyebrows and an open mouth, which has upturned edges. Arms are bent at the elbow and in Sam’s hands is an open book. Protruding from the book is a wavy rainbow ribbon, which ends in a hand giving the middle finger.)

(There is a caption alongside Sam, which reads:) Julia Serano gives a beautiful rainbow-filled “fuck you” to all those who think that gender is merely performance!

Panel 7:

Sam: (A person who is facing the viewer, but looking up towards the side. Eyebrows are raised and mouth is open, with upturned edges. One arm is raised at the shoulder and bent up at the elbow, palm facing up.) And Katie & Johnny’s TRANSCENSION (in yellow block letters) is going to become a pin up piece because of its sheer deliciousness!

Panel 8:

Sam: (A person who is looking directly at the viewer, with raised eyebrows and an open mouth, which has very upturned edges. Arms are raised at the shoulders and bent up at the elbows, palms facing the viewer. There are two exclamation marks next to Sam’s head.) And, And, And!

Joe: (A person who is looking directly at the viewer, with raised eyebrows and an open mouth, which has very upturned edges. One arm is raised at the shoulder and bent up at the elbow, its hand in a fist, with one finger pointing up.) And you’ll probably just have to read the rest!

(There is a caption at the bottom of the panel, which reads:) The End!
