Well, it’s a bit late, but here’s my 2018 in review! I initially had a hard time trying to figure out what to write for my year in review, but as soon as I started going through my diary, and my drawing folders I realised that I’ve actually achieved quite a lot in the last 12 months! My plans for this year is to draw more queer stuff, create more mini-zines, and just be a little bit gentler on myself.

I also wanna be really clear that coming off anti-depressants was what worked for me. Being on anti-depressants has been a life saver for me, and I’ve just reached a point where they weren’t being helpful anymore. But – not trying to universalise that experience, they’re really helpful to a lot of people, and not demonise them or anyone who takes them. Also, same goes for top surgery – obvs not every trans person wants or needs surgery, but I’ll be talking more about that in coming comics.

I also realised that as of Jan 1st I will have been doing Rooster Tails for NINE YEARS. Isn’t that amazing? I’m quite amazed that I’ve stuck with this for so long, it’s gotta be some sort of record. For me, personally, if not for trans guy web comics??

Also, in reference to the ‘work I did’ panel:

  • Out Loud was an awesome community project that I helped coordinate with Rainbow Youth’s Toni Duder. You can read the report here
  • Our podcast is My Neighbour Transtoro and we’ve gotta a new episode out in the next few days
  • The animation series I did was for the Child Poverty Action Group – and you can watch them all here. I’m super proud of them.

ALSO! I’m doing a market day for Auckland Pride – so if you’re a creative with some stuff to sell, come and register a stall. And if you’re anyone else in or near Auckland – you should come along
