Coming into June we got the news that the Black Ferns were going to have their own little Stat Attack cards – but that Ruby Tui wouldn’t feature, as she had asked for her image to include a Rainbow Flag.

I understand that people feel like it’s “not that simple” – but also… maybe it is? Maybe if you want to do the right thing by someone, you give them enough time, space and autonomy to decide how they want to be depicted, and you don’t ask them to erase parts of themselves that you don’t “agree with”.

Anyway, it turned out I had some big feelings about this. I’ll put the second half up tomorrow (hopefully).
